Designing Turin

The Tokyo experiment received worldwide attention and has been repeated for other cities — sometimes using virtual models, like the Toronto network in 2022.

So… why not Turin?

During the planning of this exhibition, the idea took shape — and is now becoming reality. The Soft Bio-Inspired Robotics Lab at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa is studying the networks created by Physarum polycephalum between points representing the “central places” of Turin’s neighbourhoods — identified by citizens during the listening campaign Voci di Quartiere, Neighborhood Voices, part of the new municipal plan developed by Urban Lab.

Will the collaboration between Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa, Urban Lab Turin and this exhibition help respond to the citizens’ request for easier connections between neighbourhoods?

We will find out soon.

We still don’t know whether a protist is intelligent. It depends on the definition we choose.

But we do know one thing: being inspired by it certainly is.
